The F-Gas Regulation came into force in the UK in
July 2008, and its main focus is the containment and recovery of certain fluorinated gases
If you manufacture, supply, use, install or service equipment containing F-gases, you must comply with F-gas regulations.

Fluorinated gases (F Gases) are green house gases that are found in all high street air conditioning systems. They contribute to global warming if released into the environment, as they trap heat in the atmosphere. Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) are the most common type of F Gases and are mainly used in air conditioning and commercial refrigeration systems - namely R410A and R407C refrigerants.
Users of air conditioning systems have numerous obligations to prevent leakage of F-Gas refrigerants for any system containing 3kg or more of refrigerant.
Obligations include, but aren't exclusive to:
- Leak checks
- Meeting standards on refrigerant recovery
- F-Gas qualifications and training
Because F Gases have ozone depleting potential they must be carefully contained by specialist installers to prevent any leakage.
