Last year, the UK spent around £33 billion on heating which was
responsible for around a third of the UK's greenhouse gas emissions.
The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) is the world's first long-term financial support for generation of renewable heat within the UK. It was introduced to encourage uptake of renewable technologies, whilst lowering the UK's carbon emissions.
Renewable heat technologies are those which utilise either sustainable biomass, naturally occurring heat in the air, ground or water, or radiant heat from the sun.
The Government's Department of
Climate Change (DECC) will now
pay a grant to property owners for
the generation of renewable heat.
This has been designed to level
the playing field between the cost
of renewable and traditional fossil
fuel systems.
